Philosophy

  • Building bridges, not walls — NFRA does not single out any organizations, either positively or negatively. We recognize the value in a wide range of models and believe our collective strength comes from broad representation and shared participation.

Membership Framework

  • Voting Members: U.S.-based organizations (with appointed Delegate) or unaffiliated individuals directly engaged in surplus food recovery.

  • Non-Voting Members: Individuals or groups not directly involved in food recovery, including staff (Representatives) of organization members.

  • Dues: Beginning 2026;Sliding scale based on organization size; flat rate for individuals.

Affiliate Framework

  • Friends: Aligned individuals or organizations in related fields (e.g. sustainability, advocacy).

  • Champions: Supporters providing financial or in-kind contributions.

Where We Are 

  • 501(c)(3) Status: Currently in the process of establishing our nonprofit status with pro bono support from the Fried Frank law firm. NFRA’s paperwork was filed in October 2025. We have been assigned an EIN and are awaiting our IRS Determination Letter.

  • Digital Presence: Branding assets are complete; Website published and will launch in the coming months.

  • Leadership: Our Board of Directors is in place:
