Our Story

WHO WE ARE

The National Food Recovery Association (NFRA) is a member-driven network of food recovery organizations and experts across the U.S. committed to minimizing wasted food through prevention and the redistribution of surplus to people first. NFRA serves as a vehicle for food rescue professionals and organizations of all sizes to define the future of food recovery. NFRA members collaborate to advance effective food recovery initiatives that enhance food security, combat climate change, and strengthen the economy.

WHY WE EXIST

The shared experience and aligned values of founding members led to the creation of the National Food Recovery Association (NFRA) to enhance the credibility and collective impact of members committed to industry excellence. This will be achieved by promoting transparent and collaborative approaches to edible surplus food gleaning, rescue, recovery and redistribution, as well as the prevention of food from going to waste.

OUR VISION

The NFRA envisions a future where edible surplus food recovery is a cornerstone of every community’s approach to food and nutrition security, environmental stewardship, and economic vitality. By fostering collaboration and supporting organizations of all sizes, NFRA aims to create a well-connected field that elevates the voices of food recovery experts to define industry standards and influence a supportive regulatory framework. This will be achieved through the development of programs designed to establish industry benchmarks, promote food recovery and Association Members nationwide, encourage joint-funding opportunities, advocate for supportive food sustainability policies, and more.
